Let them play

Active recess gets the kids outside to move, shake, play, laugh, and have a good time. More than getting energy out, active play promotes sophisticated motor skill growth and, in social settings, encourages interpersonal development.

  • The introduction of Active Play Every Day at Sonoma County elementary school sites has increased Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity during recess by an average of 24%.
  • In 2016, we are placing Active Recess coaches from SSU in 4 different schools.
  • We partner with 11 schools, reaching approximately 5080 students.

Active Play Every Day is an active recess program using the Play Works evidence-based model. Recess coaches are trained through the Play Works model then assigned to an elementary school site where they facilitate safe, inclusive and active play during recess.

Now in over 65 sites across Sonoma County, Active Play Every Day is partnering with area schools to promote healthy physical activities that are setting kids up for a lifelong interest in fitness and fun.

Impact: Guerneville School

Located in Guerneville, our partner site, Guerneville School has joined the Center in an effort to bring Active Play Every Day to its students and their families.

Guerneville School has benefited greatly from the services and support offered to our school through the Center for Well-Being. Our schools are in need of support to ensure that this type of learning occurs throughout the school day.
